The Next Movement

About The Next Movement

A world where people look for themselves, ask questions and understand each other, because that is what makes communities and democracies strong.

The Next Movement uses cartoons by editorial cartoonists to open dialogue among young people, through programmes, exhibitions, online and clothing. Since 2014 we have worked with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands on the Peace and Justice project.

Our mission

With cartoons by real artists from around the world, we open conversations that build critical thinking, understanding and social cohesion: in classrooms, exhibitions, online and on what you wear.

Why critical thinking

People who think for themselves grow. They develop as individuals, as entrepreneurs and as communities, because they dare to question what they are told and to look for their own answers.

A man in a suit with a peace sign for a face stands next to a set of scales balancing a second man in a suit.
No peace, no justice, Dr. Meddy, Tanzania

A cartoon is a good place to start. It is one image that people read in their own way, and there is no wrong answer. When you hear how someone else sees the same drawing, you start to see through their eyes. That is how understanding, and social cohesion, begin.

And strong democracies stand on exactly this: citizens who ask questions, listen to each other and make up their own minds. We do not tell you what to think. We give you something to think about.

Principles

  • Credited by name

Real cartoons by real artists, credited by name.

  • No imposed opinions

We ask questions. You decide what you think.

Our network

Our network of editorial cartoonists is built together with Cartoon Movement.

Impact and transparency

The Next Movement works with cartoons by real artists. We only publish what we can back up.
